3-Day Workplace Wellness Conference Coming to Atlanta

FULTON–The Workplace Wellness Conference is scheduled to take place over the course of March 31 to April 2 at the Hotel at Avalon in Alpharetta.

The conference is part of a comprehensive initiative that allows participants to explore the latest wellness research from medical professionals and business leaders.

“This year is much like an inaugural event,” board of directors Dr. Mark Vettraino said. “There is a shift from primarily informing Human Resource representatives to directly interacting with corporations, the municipal sector, educators and the public.”

According to the Wellness Conference website, the agenda consists of presentations from Thought Leaders, speakers who are experts on the topics listed below.

  • the status of mental health in children and adults

  • human-centered business cultures

  • spinal health and maintenance

  • relaxation methodologies

  • nutrition deficiencies and the primary contributors to disease

One of this year’s speakers is Dr. Tabor Smith, a chiropractor, spinal hygienist and educator that emphasizes the importance of long-term health care practices, especially when living in a tech-driven world.

“There has been an increase in the number of people with degenerative disc disease (condition of the spine),” said Smith. “Typically it is most common in older adults, but I am seeing this condition among the younger demographic with teenagers and that is concerning.”

Smith mentioned that the issues technology is causing today is similar to the increase of tooth decay in the early 1900s with the industrialization of sugar.

“Back then the solution was not to completely get rid of sugar, but to implement hygiene practices. Today that translates to showing people who work in tech-driven fields various spinal hygiene exercises.”

Ergonomic Solutions to Workplace Problems

Smith’s presentation on day two and three will involve a hands-on segment where participants will learn and try out several of these practices for better spinal health.

He believes this social event will provide the public with unique, valuable tools they cannot receive from mainstream health care providers.

Nicole Comis is a professional certified life coach in the local area and will be attending the morning sessions.

“I am in training all week, otherwise I would be there for the whole thing,” Comis said. “I am grateful that I can pop in for a few hours because I do think this is incredibly important information that is being shared.”

The resources available at the conference demonstrate the combination of ergonomic (relating to people’s efficiency in work environments) and holistic solutions to workplace problems.

“A major healing has to happen,” said Vettraino. “It has to get done through a path of healing that considers the person as a whole– mind, body and soul.”

Attendee registration is currently still open.
